Alumni Networks
What is a Network?
What Networks Do
Local networks are an accessible, fun, friendly, and consistent point of contact for alumni. They bring alumni together to provide quality local programs and events. They appeal to a wide variety of alumni and they offer a diverse range of activities. They are a source of information about the university, Michigan Tech Alumni Association (MTUAA), the Michigan Tech Fund, and they provide a local contact for alumni, parents, and current and future students.
How Networks Work
MTUAA Networks foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. Great networks communicate regularly and effectively with alumni and MTUAA. Networks plan for the future by creating a solid organizational structure and incorporating volunteer training, development and leadership succession into their programming.
There are three levels of alumni networks:
Husky Groups - Loosely organized groups of alumni who have an affinity or common interest (i.e. regional location, specific clubs or groups, academic major.) These groups may host local gatherings and events. They are not interested in becoming organized networks and don't require full MTUAA support or resources.
Networks - Official regional networks that represent the face of MTUAA and Michigan Tech in their communities and maintain a consistent presence with holding at least one event per year. Networks typically consist of a small or informal committee based structure. Networks may also exist with an affinity or corporate common interest. Official MTUAA Networks reflect the look and feel of MTUAA and Michigan Tech, coordinate with MTUAA, and receive financial, staff and program support in planning and executing alumni events and activities.
Chapters - Official regional chapters meet a higher level of alumni service in their community by having multiple events per year, hold regular meetings, and usually supporting a local scholarship program. Chapters usually consist of a traditional officer structure (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, etc). Regional chapters receive additional MTUAA support and resources that are consistent with their commitment to servings the diverse needs and interests of all graduates.
